Free-standing modular bicycles shelters - 8 to 32 parking places

  • Client: SNCF Gares & Connexions
  • Designer: AREP
  • Company: Altinnova
  • Delivery: 2014
Alsace boasts two new types of free-standing and modular cycle shelters which are located on the forecourt of the Conseil Régional (Regional Council) and at Sélestat station.
They will contribute to dealing with the increasing number of cyclists as well as the shortage of bicycle spaces on trains while meeting the users' needs for secure and easy to use cycle parking facilities. They are free-standing and modular and can, thus, extend to accommodate from 8 to 16 or even 32 parking places without requiring much space on the ground. They can be easily assembled and provide a cost-effective solution for clients due to their low maintenance requirements. The shelter located on the forecourt of the Conseil Régional accommodates a passenger waiting area, a two-tier bicycle rack offering 8 spaces and an electric bike charge point. The shelter located at Sélestat station provides for 16 bicycle racks and was entirely assembled at workshop making it a less expensive solution with regard to manufacturing and installation. It can be easily transported by lorry (no need for a wide load vehicle) and the installation can be completed in less than two hours.
